About 4-H

Small Farm

Four H's stand for: Head, Heart, Hands, Health
4-H motto: To make the best better
4-H slogan: Learn by doing
4-H pledge: I pledge my HEAD to clearer thinking, my HEART to greater loyalty, my HANDS to larger service, my HEALTH to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.

Founded in 1902, 4-H was incorporated into the Extension Service in 1914 as a non-formal, education program teaching leadership, citizenship, and other life skills to youth.

Our mission is to create supportive environments for youth to reach their fullest potential. Youth, ages 5-18, can become involved in 4-H through joining a local club, special-interest group, enrolling in a camp, or by participating in a 4-H school enrichment program.

4-H builds brighter futures by teaching youth important life skills, like self-esteem, necessary to living a productive and satisfying life. Learning opportunities in 4-H include a wide array of projects like

livestock, gardening, shooting sports, dog agility, and various arts and crafts like sewing, painting, wood working, photography and cooking.

As part of the 4-H experience, members ages 8 and up can compete for awards at local, state and national levels. One of the largest and oldest local competitions is the annual Southeastern Youth Fair, held in February of each year. This all-youth fair is a place where 4-Hers' and FFA members alike have the opportunity to showcase their projects they've worked on over the past year.
