Soil and Fertilizer

Soil and Fertilizer

Much of the soil in Florida is sandy, which allows for rapid drainage of water and nutrients. This along with the extreme Florida heat, cause soils to dry out quickly. Plants that have high water and nutritional requirements do not typically do well in sandy soil. Other kinds of Florida soils include loam and clay; each having different characteristics that fit different plant needs.

There are a number of fertilizers that can be used to supplement the soil depending on the plant needs.
