![]() Marion County Fire Rescue's Explorer Post 982 composed of more than two dozen young adults sets an example for other Explorer Posts across the state. The Boy Scouts of America, which sponsors the program, has recognized MCFR's efforts, awarding the Post 982 the "Explorer Post of the Year" during the 2004-2005 fiscal year. Captain Pam Driggers has also earned the title of "Explorer Advisor of the Year". The Explorer Program is a worksite-based program that helps teens and young adults gain insight into a variety of career opportunities within fire rescue services through extensive hands-on training and activities.

| The most successful Explorers can become eligible to participate in the Fire and EMT Career Academy as well as ride-along with firefighters to put their skills to work in real-life emergencies. The Explorer Program is made possible through a cooperative effort among Marion County Fire Rescue, the International Fire Chiefs' Association and the Boy Scouts of America.
