Utilities Maintenance Division

Marion County Utilities is responsible for maintaining over 500 miles of water distribution lines and over 300 miles of wastewater collections lines. We maintain over 27,500 water customer accounts and over 18,000 wastewater accounts. The Maintenance Division is broken into several functional areas with the largest being the customer service group. This group spends over 30,000 hours each year setting and maintaining water meters, repairing and cleaning water and sewer lines, and locating and marking our utility locations so that people can dig around them. The Maintenance Division is also responsible for a large number of maintenance programs. The programs include the tank maintenance program, where we ensure that 55 water tanks and water towers are cleaned regularly and properly maintained; the fire hydrant program which maintains and tests over 3200 hydrants; the valve maintenance program which services and maintains over 5000 distribution system valves; Lift Station Maintenance Program which maintains 167 lift stations around the county; and five other programs including the cross connection control, sewer line maintenance, boring crew for new services under roads, meter change out and repair crew, and the pump repair shop. In the future, we also want to add a pipe installation crew which will reduce our dependency on contract labor for larger pipe installation projects and repairs.
