FRS (Florida Retirement System) Guidelines

The Marion County Board of County Commissioners provides retirement and for full-time and part-time staff through the Florida Retirement System.

New-employee Guidelines for FRS:
  • The Marion County Clerk of the Court notifies the Florida Retirement System of employees eligible for this benefit.
  • After 30 days of employment, all eligible employees will receive a retirement choice kit at their home address.
  • Once the kit is received, eligible employees will have until 4 p.m. ET of the last day of the fifth month following their month of hire to select, either the FRS Investment Plan or FRS Pension Plan.
During the selection period if employees have any questions, they are encouraged to contact Human Resources at 352-438-2345. For further guidance, employees are encouraged to use the Financial Guidance Information Line at 1-866-446-9377 or the MyFRS.com website. At MyFRS.com, a FRS plan administrator can assist employees with any questions they may have.
