The Traffic Section is responsible for traffic operations and engineering. Traffic Operations consists of design, construction as well as maintenance of signals, signs and pavement markings. Traffic Engineering consists of design review, safety audits, traffic studies and evaluating real time levels of service of signals and roadways through our Traffic Management Center.
The Traffic Section inspects traffic control devices installed in conjunction with subdivision and roadway construction and checks compliance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). We also conduct traffic counts, speed studies, crash analysis and other data collection. Crash information is collected from various sources and analyzed to identify hazardous locations and recommend improvements. Safety audits may be conducted at high crash-rate locations, which could result in the implementation of a plan for safety improvements.
Service requests for signals, signs, pavement markings and studies are generated upon the notification of hazards or maintenance needs. To report concerns, during business hours, please contact our Customer Service Center by calling 352-671-8686 or via email. After-hour emergencies can be reported to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 352-732-9111. The Sheriff's Office will notify our on-call technician.
